CBAS2011 -- Comprehensive Building Asbestos Surveys

This program is based on ASTM E2356 Standard Practice for Comprehensive Building Asbestos Surveys *. It has been updated to reflect important changes to the standard in 2009 and 2010. This state-of-the-art approach provides more information than the “AHERA surveys” taught in most training classes. The Powerpoint program covers

Baseline Surveys for long-term management of asbestos-containing materials
• Planning and Costs – how to prepare for a comprehensive survey
• Scope of the survey -- accessible and excluded locations; concealed spaces
• Field Work – how many samples to take of different materials
• Report Preparation – going beyond the laboratory results to thoroughly document the survey

Sampling and Analysis
Sample collection -- friable and non-friable materials
Analytical Methods – when and how to use Polarized Light Microscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy
• Confirmation protocol for results including Non-friable Organically Bound (NOB) materials
• Several videos show how bulk samples of suspect materials are collected

Assessment Protocols to help prioritize removal decisions
Comparison of AHERA and E2356 assessment protocols NEW!
• An innovative quantitative method to assess Current Condition and Potential for Disturbance of asbestos-containing materials
• Graphically illustrate the results to prioritize removal of different asbestos-containing materials
• Illustrated example on using the quantitative protocol for typical asbestos-containing materials

Pre-Construction Survey to determine if renovation or demolition will disturb asbestos-containing materials NEW!
• Satisfies NESHAP requirement to "thoroughly inspect" area of renovation or demolition
• Used in absence of previous survyes or other information on asbestos-containing materials

Project Design Survey to obtain information for preparing the abatement plans and specifications
• Determining the "limits of abatement" for the project
• Using destructive testing to find and sample concealed suspect materials
• Obtains project design information that does not depend on the results of bulk sampling & analysis

EXAMINATION QUESTIONS
Eighty multiple choice and true/false questions are provided in MS Word format for training providers to use in courses for AHERA accreditation and state licensing.

* ASTM E2356 is not included with the program. It is available from ASTM International at www.astm.org. E2356-10 includes blank Assessment Charts that can be copied and used for training and surveys.

The program consists of a Powerpoint presentation and a printable Instructor’s Guide in Adobe PDF format on a CD.

The Powerpoint program includes video clips of sample collection like the one below.

NEW! Assessment Templates

CBAS2011 includes Excel spreadsheets that let you customize the Abatement vs O&M charts used to display the results of the unique E2356 quantitative assessment protocols. With these templates you can configure the chart to reflect conditions in your own building or facility that affect how you manage asbestos-containing materials.

In addition to the Excel file, CBAS2011 has a separate Powerpoint program explaining how to use the Assessment Templates that you can use to train yourself or others.

This feature is included with CBAS2011 at NO EXTRA COST!
