Opportunities for consultants

The Customized Compliance Program for Asbestos offers opportnities for consultants to add value to the services they provide to their clients. As a consultant, you probably know as much or more than your clients about asbestos in their facilities, and it makes sense for you to assist them in setting up and using the CCPA . Although the program is not licensed directly to consultants, your participation is encouraged and provisions have been made to facilitate it.

You may have already conducted the survey and compiled the database of ACM locations that form the basis for the Locations and Precautions feature. The next step is organizing this information into the formats for the CCPA pages and adding the required photos and floor plans, following the instructions and tutorials provided with the program.

You may have also quantified the ACM and assessed its condition, providing the foundation for the Assessment and Cost feature. The next step is updating the assessments to comply with ASTM E2356 Standard Practice for Comprehensive Building Asbestos Surveys, the state-of-the-art protocol that not only surpasses the "AHERA" methods you have used but provides the framework for the budgeting feature of the program. The program materials contain complete instructions for doing this.

Your clients may be providing building occupants and contractors with asbestos-related information by issuing letters and memos on a case-by-case basis, or you may have been doing this for them. You can use the pre-formatted Notification Forms to ensure that all of OSHA's requirements are covered and to keep track of the Notices Issued for several types of asbestos-related activities. Finally, you can keep track of asbestos signs and labels, even creating customized signs, with the CCPA.

The potential for increasing the amount of consulting work from existing and new clients should be evident. If you have the requisite information technology resources to create the web pages and maintain the program on your clients' computers or servers, these services create opportunities for additional revenue. The tech support that I provide with the CCPA includes training in all aspects of using the program, but if you would rather leave the IT component to me or another company, suitable arrangements can be made to share the work and revenue equitably.

If you have not already done so, go through the on-line interactive demonstration and review the Frequently-Asked Questions. Ask your clients to go through it with you. Then call me so we can discuss your clients' needs and how we can work together. Be assured that I am not after your consulting work and I have no intention of intruding on your relationships with clients. I want to help you serve them better by introducing them to the Customized Compliance Program for Asbestos.
