What does it cost and how do I start?

For $995 per facility you receive a CD with the program materials. In addition to the CCPA software on the CD you will also need:

• Dreamweaver web-authoring software – do not try to use another program. It won’t work. You can download this software from http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/
• A graphics program – Adobe Photoshop Elements is recommended and can be down-loaded from http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelwin/
• A Microsoft Office Suite with Word and Excel, which should come with a professional-level Windows operating system.

Install the CCPA software, Dreamweaver and the graphics program (and Word and Excel if not already installed) on a computer that will be designated as the Master Computer. The CCPA files must be installed in the root directory of this computer. This is very important.

Follow the set-up instructions that appear when you insert the CCPA CD in the master computer. You will be directed to print out three sets of instructions from PDF files. Following these instructions, you will
1. Go through a Tutorial that is already set up for a fictitious facility to learn how to use the CCPA.
2. Go through a Practice Set-up where you load information for a different fictitious facility into the CCPA to learn how to do it.
3. Perform the Initial Set-up for your facility, using survey data, photos, floor plans and other information that you collect.

The Initial Set-up takes time and effort by people who have expertise in asbestos control, know how to create web pages and other files, and are familiar with computer systems. All of these talents may reside in one individual but more likely setting up and using the CCPA will be a team effort. You may find that the services of your asbestos consultant and IT staff or contractor will be needed to make the program function properly. One thing you will need to do is to assess the ACM in your facility using the quantitative protocol in ASTM E2356 Standard Practice for Comprehensive Building Asbestos Surveys, which is different from – and superior to – any other assessment technique you may have used. You can order the standard from www.astm.org and the CCPA comes with complete instructions for using it.

To help you through this process, Andy Oberta, the creator of the CCPA, will personally provide up to six hours of technical support by e-mail or telephone for each $995 license fee that you pay. If more support is needed, a credit card or purchase order will be requested to cover the charges at a rate of $100/hr. Experience has shown that an effective way to get started is for him to spend some time at your facility to install the CCPA software and train your staff or consultants on using the program. In addition to advice on the CCPA from the man who developed it, you also get the benefit of his asbestos expertise. By the end of this visit, you will have the Initial Set-up for your facility well under way. On-site support is also provided at $100/hr; travel time and expenses are additional.
